Goal Setting for Leaders in 2022

by Dec 27, 2021Personal Development

This is the time of year many people set New Year’s Resolutions. What we’re doing is determining goals for the foreseeable future. Goal setting can appear differently depending upon a person’s way of life, values and meaning of success. Your objectives are special and unique to you.

The timeless goal setting definition comes down to the process of determining something you want to accomplish and establishing quantifiable objectives and timeframes to assist you in attaining it. Goal setting can help you in any area of your life, from attaining financial freedom to adopting a healthy diet. When you learn how to set goals in one area of your life, it becomes easier to set them in other areas.

Setting progressive objectives that allow small wins, helps you to proceed to larger accomplishments. These little objectives lead to progress, which is the only thing you really need to feel fulfilled and successful.

WHY IS GOAL SETTING IMPORTANT?

Personal goal setting is the essential secret to success. Whether it’s increasing your intelligence, learning a brand-new skill set, or reviving a relationship, setting goals lets you set the direction for your future. Additionally, it helps you grow and expand, pushing yourself to transform in ways you may have never envisioned.

In order to feel satisfied, we all need to know and feel like we’re working to accomplish something.

Reliable objective goal setting lets you determine development, conquer procrastination and envision your dreams. If you don’t know what you want to accomplish, you can’t create a strategy to get there! Setting goals is the vehicle that will drive you to your preferred destination.

Setting goals also keeps you accountable. Whether you’re learning how to set objectives at work or in your individual life, informing others about your goals makes you more likely to establish the patterns to achieve them.

Here, we’ll cover how to set goals to guarantee you attain them. You’ll learn what makes a compelling objective as well as the actions required to see them through.

HOW TO SET GOALS

What is goal setting to you? When you set goals are you used to seeing them vanish in the rearview mirror? We’re willing to wager if you’re reading this page, you’ve set some goals before in your life. But did you see them through?  So many people set New Year’s Resolutions and they are long forgotten within 24 hours.

Here is my step-by-step guide for creating powerful, inspiring, personal and professional goals. Goal setting is a fundamental key to success. It lets us create our future with what life gives us. In order to feel fulfilled, we need to have something we’re focused on and working towards. Progress towards our goals provides satisfaction and energy to overcome challenges. Think of a goal as a dream with a deadline. Steps for creating your goals.

  1. First think of five things that you are proud of and have already accomplished. Write them down.

2. Next give yourself 20 minutes and list 50 things that you would like to accomplish in the next 20 years. Just quickly write them down. To help inspire you here are some categories to get your juices flowing.

  • Experiences
  • Changes
  • Habits altered or dropped
  • Personal Development goals
  • People to meet
  • Investments Skills to learn or teach
  • Family goals
  • Relationship goals
  • Contributions to community
  • Places to visit

At the completion of 20 minutes or 50 items write beside each one the number of years you are setting to accomplish each one (use 1, 3, 5, 10, or 20). Setting deadlines is crucial to goal setting. Some goals take a lifetime to achieve, but make sure you are pushing yourself toward both professional and personal growth. If you don’t know how long a goal will take – like finding a healthy relationship – write down how long you would like it to take. Goals are like magnets. They will attract the things that are needed to make them come true. Go over what you’ve written. Choose your top four one-year goals. These are goals that excite you because they are most connected to your purpose in life.

3. Write a paragraph for each goal explaining why you will achieve this goal within the next 12 months. This isn’t a to-do list. This is creating a vision for your life. When you have a powerful reason “why,” you’ll more easily discover the “how.”   Do the same for each of the other four categories, 3, 5, 10 and 20 year goals. When the why gets stronger, the how seems easier. The purpose is stronger than objects. The more you become, the more you can achieve……The more you achieve, the more you become. What is your concept of who you need to become? Perhaps wiser, stronger? Maybe you need coaching to become who you need to become.

4. Other things to consider in setting goals and your pursuit of them

  • Set Goals high enough
  • Don’t compromise or sell out
  • Consider the costs
  • Don’t kid yourself. –  Is it your goal, or someone else’s?
  • Now it’s time to take those big goals and break them down into smaller goals.
  • Are your goals
    • Specific?
    • Measurable?
    • Achievable?
    • Realistic?
    • Do they have a specific timeframe?

These are the components of what is called a SMART goal. Breaking down your goals in this way sets a strong purpose and intention, making them more concrete and easier to achieve. You’ll also be able to better track your progress and celebrate your successes – two keys to achieving goals.

5. Rember that the ultimate goal is continuing progress, not perfection. Be kind to yourself as well as disciplined. Success is nothing more than a few small disciplines practiced every day.”
